Introduction to Conservation Biology combines readings (textbook and primary literature), in-class discussion, field work (in Singapore and Malaysian Borneo), and computer exercises to provide students a broad background in the major threats to biodiversity, the techniques used to assess population status, and experience writing a research paper.
In 2016 and 2017, our class traveled to Danum Valley in Sabah, Malaysia to learn first-hand about tropical biodiversity, the regional threats to that diversity, and how we survey wild populations, helping to continue long-term monitoring of amphibians at this site.
